Amboseli National Park

Amboseli National Park is a renowned wildlife sanctuary located in southern Kenya, known for its stunning landscapes and abundant wildlife. Known for its large elephant herds and breath-taking views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the park offers an unforgettable wildlife experience. The park is also associated with the Maasai people, whose traditional way of life and culture are an integral part of the area. It’s situated in Kajiado County, Kenya, and covers an area of approximately 392 square kilometres, it’s also part of a much larger ecosystem that crosses the border into Tanzania.

Best Time to Visit:

  • June – October (Dry Season) – Best for wildlife viewing as animals gather around water sources.
  • November – May (Wet Season) – Lush scenery and ideal for birdwatching, but some areas may be muddy.
  • July – October and December – March are high season.
Lake Nakuru National Park

Lake Nakuru National Park is a truly remarkable wildlife haven in Kenya, particularly famous for its spectacular birdlife and diverse array of animals. The park is renowned for the massive flocks of flamingos that gather along the shores of Lake Nakuru. These birds create a stunning pink spectacle, often covering large portions of the lake. It’s situated in the Great Rift Valley, offering picturesque landscapes and diverse habitats. Lake Nakuru National Park is a vital sanctuary for both black and white rhinos, making it a prime location for rhino sightings. Beyond flamingos and rhinos, the park is home to a wide range of wildlife such as buffaloes, zebras and various antelopes. With over 400 bird species, the park is a must-visit for birdwatching Enthusiasts. The Lake itself is a shallow, alkaline lake that provides a crucial habitat for numerous bird and animal species.

Samburu National Reserve – A Hidden Gem of Northern Kenya

Samburu National Reserve, located in northern Kenya, is a unique and less crowded safari destination known for its rare wildlife, rugged landscapes, and rich Samburu culture. The reserve lies along the Ewaso Ng’iro River, providing a vital water source for wildlife in this semi-arid region. It’s a prime spot for viewing crocodiles and other water-dependent animals, it features striking arid and semi-arid landscapes, with acacia woodlands, scrublands, and rocky outcrops. It is a haven for birdwatchers, with a diverse array of bird species adapted to the region’s climate.

Masai mara National Reserve

The Maasai Mara National Reserve is one of the most famous and iconic wildlife conservation areas in the world, located in south western Kenya.

It is most renowned for the annual wildebeest migration, a spectacular event where millions of wildebeest, zebras, and other herbivores traverse the plains in search of fresh grazing. This migration, which typically occurs between July and October, is considered one of the “Seven Natural Wonders of Africa. The reserve features vast, open grasslands dotted with acacia trees, creating a classic African savannah landscape.The Mara River and its tributaries wind through the reserve, providing vital water sources for wildlife.

The reserve is named after the Maasai people, who have a long and rich history in the region. Visitors have opportunities to experience Maasai culture through visits to traditional villages.

  • The Maasai Mara is a major tourist destination, offering a wide range of safari experiences, including game drives, hot air balloon safaris, and walking safaris.
  • There are various accommodation options, from luxury lodges to tented camps.
Best Time to Visit
  • July – October: Peak season for the Great Migration and excellent wildlife viewing.
  • December – February: Dry season with active predators and good game viewing.
  • March – June: Green season with fewer tourists, lush landscapes, and excellent birdwatching.
Tsavo National Parks – The Untamed Wilderness of Kenya

Tsavo National Park, Kenya’s largest and one of its oldest parks, is divided into two sections:

  • Tsavo East National Park – Known for its vast open plains, red-dust elephants, and rugged wilderness.
  • Tsavo West National Park – More scenic, with volcanic landscapes, rolling hills, and lush oases.
Tsavo East National Park – The Land of Red Elephants

The elephants here are covered in red volcanic soil which creates a unique sight. This side has the infamous man eater railway museum. It host the lugard falls and galena river which is best known for its scenic views and hippo pools. Home to zebras, giraffes, cheetah and bird species

Tsavo West National Park – A Scenic Safari Haven

This park has Mzima springs where hippos and crocodiles can be seen underwater. This is where you’ll find the Ngulia rhino sanctuary which is a protected area for the endangered black rhino, other animals such as lions, elephants, buffalos, antelopes etc can be found there as well.

Best Time to Visit Tsavo
  • June – October & January – March: Best for game viewing in the dry season.
  • April – May & November – December: Green season with lush landscapes but occasional heavy rains.
